Just in: Obaseki wins polling unit, Akpata loses.

The governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has won at his polling unit. The PDP got 127 votes, while the APC received 35. At polling unit PU19, Ward 04 in Oredo LGA, the Labour Party (LP) got 11 votes.

He said, “Despite the bad weather, you can see a large turnout of people, and they are enthusiastic. It’s not even mid-day yet, and the ballot box at my polling unit is already full. This clearly shows people are very interested in this election because they’ve been mobilized. That’s why I’m not surprised.

“I’m pleased with the strong military presence in the state. As you know, federal security agencies are in control. I’m not the Chief Security Officer of the state; the Inspector General of Police (IGP) is.”

On the other hand, the Labour Party candidate, Olumide Akpata, lost at his polling unit. He got 32 votes, while the PDP received 41. At polling unit PU11, Ward 06, Oredo LGA, the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, got 19 votes.

It’s worth noting that Akpata had urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to make sure the same process he experienced at his polling unit happens throughout the state and that every vote is counted fairly.
